The River School provides an experience of alternative education that aims to prepare children to meet the world with clarity, a caring heart and confidence. Children’s growth is addressed, mind, body and spirit, encouraging awareness on all levels, of themselves and of the planet as a whole.
To meet natural educational and emotional needs, the arts are integrated into virtually every element of the classes. Children experience the lesson's content dynamically through drawing, painting, song, recitation, drama, movement and earth skills. Through this direct experience there is the possibility of a living wisdom that enriches the intellect and deepens natural joy and genuine inner enthusiasm. With natural motivation inspiring academic growth and human understanding, the school thrives in an easy, peaceful atmosphere in which all can breathe freely. The approach is to treat children with reverence, educate them with love so that they naturally learn and experience with inspiration. Special gatherings are arranged to integrate new children and their families.
The continually developing curriculum includes yoga, cookery, drama, gym, Spanish language, gardening, movement, art, horse riding, music, song, science, math, crafts and star wisdom.
The River School is supported by community residents with university degrees and professional qualifications, together with the parents’ ongoing cooperation and trust. The school is developing an elemental based curriculum that intertwines with the seasons and cycles of PachaMama.
